Ugg!

That stinking word

your mom used

to justify making you

eat that yucky stuff...

The U.S.  Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for the safety of food sold in the United States. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in a joint effort with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) provide dietary guidelines to promote health and help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

*The Nutritional Facts Label on the left represents an FDA requirement with percentages of daily values determined by the USDA and HHS.

The label is dynamic meaning it has changed throughout the years to better reflect information consumers need to make healthy choices. Saturated fat and cholesterol measurements were included in 1993 with trans fat being targeted specifically in 2006.

The table to the right shows the daily values recommended for each item accordingto the USDA. Although amounts of trans fat are required to be listed on a product's Nutritinal Facts Label, it is not listed here as there is no determined daily value.
